Work has been busy lately, with many different people and opportunities. I feel like today, more than at other times, I want to take advantage of Sunday as a day to worship and forget the cares of work and other weekday commitments.

Instead, what I hope to set my mind on is Heavenly Father and spiritual growth. I am reading chapters 12-14 in the Book of Mormon this morning. They speak of good and evil, and how the fall made human beings capable of knowing the difference.

Lots of questions come to my mind as a think about good vs. evil, and how to know the difference. One question is why do we need commandments from god if we should be able to recognize the difference. I think at least one reason is because recognizing and choosing are two different things. We may know, but we may not do, or we may do otherwise. When I think about good vs. evil, I also think about creative vs. destructive, or building up vs. tearing down.

Things that are good create, inspire, bring life and vitality, and the feeling of love that wants to include and protect others, and build them up on the inside. Evil wants to use for ones own profit, or destroy and tear down. Good is centered on the benefits of others, evil is centered on the benefits of self.
