Today is effectively the first day of a new quarter. I’m using it to clean up all my stuff. It feels like the brink of something amazing.

The weekend was kind of lazy, but I did a couple of things that were very enjoyable, and Kelsee and Landon came back through town so we were able to spend a little time with them. That’s always nice.

Gratitudes

I have so much to be thankful for with my family. Things haven’t yet turned out as I imagined they would when I used to day dream about my kids, but I’m so happy that they are responsible and successful adults, capable of caring for themselves sufficiently that they might turn their attention to caring for others.

I’m grateful for the opportunities I have to interact with so many people. One of the great joys of life is the sociality that exists between me and others.

I’m grateful for the cool place I have to work. It’s a beautiful building, and the view from Eagle to the Boise mountains is fantastic.

Mindset

I’ve been thinking quite a bit about mindset lately. It’s very easy to slip into old habits of thinking, sometimes almost unaware that we’re doing it. Mind training is like any other kind of training. Consistent, “lasting repetition is the only thing that will create change.

It seems there is nothing (in this world at least) that is really permanent. Everything seems to be in either a state of decay or a state of growth. Plateaus may last for a moment, or maybe even two, but eventually they begin to fall apart and those that dwell in them must either put work into maintaining them, rising above them, or sinking with them. We move forward or back. I realize I do both of those things often. I hope that I will always move forward more than back.
