I feel nervous for Sienna driving to work today. It can’t be easy for her to do that. It is unfair that she has to deal with this, but it’s the perfect example of the saying “life is not fair!” Why do we expect fair?

I’ve never analyzed that question before. It seems like human beings are born with an internal barometer for ‘fairness’. But is it fairness or selfishness? What one person deems fair another may judge to be one-sided.

Regardless, our feeling of deserving things to be fair, which seems universal, seems laughable without a concept of universal truth. Why should we think we deserve fairness in this life? Why should we feel we are deserving of anything?

It is a pecular notion. I wonder if other intelligent beings have a similar notion of being deserving of any certain thing. The concept of deserving and fairness go hand in hand.

I believe it comes from God, but I wonder where people who do not believe in God think it comes from.

Today:

  • Working on an adset for some targeted marketing.
  • Helping the Hadeler family move this evening.
  • Pondering what it means for God to condescend to us.

Last week I was updating my website and took a call from a sales person. Normally I put these off as quickly as possible, but the way this person spoke to me kept me on the line, and I ended up agreeing to try some targeted online advertising.

The promise is that the ads will appear to approximately 1,100 users actively interested in buying or selling county wide. The price is nominal for what they say they can do. We will see how it goes.

I’m excited to try it, but I’m not excited about their ad designs. So I’ll be working on those today myself.

This evening a group from church will be helping the Hadelers move. I hope their is a good turn out.

I have been thinking lately about the love of God. There are two parts to that subject: The love we have for God and the love God has for us.

What often comes to mind when I think about this subject are the words “we love him because he first loved us.” Our hearts turn to him when we feel that love, even in a small degree. And our hearts convict us when we do things we know are not reciprocal of that love.

Even when we may not fully understand why our actions are contrary to his love and care for us, something inside of us turns away. Constantly turning back to him is the surest way to keep his love in our hearts.
